Select the Tool Stand Mounting Style
There are two distinct TSL interface styles, both styles are equally strong, equally flexible. It comes down to application-specific preferences to determine which style is the best choice.
Option #1 – The TSL Pin and Bushing Interface utilizes a post-mounted plate with two alignment pins on top, and a bushing on the bottom to act as a moment support location. Pin and Bushing interface methods sometimes require more vertical tool-mounting space, but may offer more design customization options such as direct integration with heavy automation weld guns.
Option #2 – The TSL Hook and Hanger Interface utilizes a post-mounted plate with two hanger rods that support corresponding steel drop off hooks that are tool-mounted. Hook and Hanger interfaces usually occupy less tooling stack height but may have less flexibility for downstream configuration changes.

Select Post Mounting Options
The TSL product line includes a strong floor-mounted post weldment. This weldment can mount up to two tools, and comes standard in 48" height. Upon ordering, the TSL mounting module can be directly integrated onto this TSL post weldment or the mounting module can be ordered "stand-alone" without a weldment and you can supply / source your own.

Select the Tooling Plate
Option #1 – For the TSL Pin and Bushing Interfaces-style, Determine if you want the L-Bracket-style, blank interface plate or if you want an independently-mounted tooling plate, like the TP-3328 plate. You can request custom mounting patterns be added to the TP assemblies at the time of ordering. ATI will generate custom part numbers for you at this point. You will be required to provide ATI Engineering with the information necessary to machine your plate to specification. Lead times and pricing will vary.
Option #2 – For the TSL Hook and Hanger Interface-style, determine if you require the hooks to be directly attached to the Tool Changer, such as shown on the NA2 NA3 hook module options or if the hooks can be a part of a nest interface assembly plate which is independently-mounted to the end-effector such as the 9121-TSL-TH-5641 assembly shows. You can request custom mounting patterns be added to the TH assemblies at the time of ordering. ATI will generate specific custom part numbers for you at this point. You will be required to provide ATI Engineering with the information necessary to machine your plate to specification. Lead times and pricing will vary.

Determine if Tool Presence Sensing is needed
The TSL sensor module is directly determined. Proximity sensors are usually included with the TSL sensor module. The sensor modules are designed to accommodate most 18mm barrel type prox sensors.

Select Safety Switch Options
ATI offers mechanically actuated safety switches that are directly integrated into the TSI (Tool Stand Interlock) function of the Tool Changer. Safety switches can also be used without the TSI option.

Debris Protection
There are many options for debris covers. Consider if the application requires the covers to be self-actuated or is there enough time for the robot to pick up and drop off tool covers in between tool change cycles? Answers to these questions will help determine the correct cover for the TSL tooling. Contact ATI if you do not see exactly what you are looking for.
